Fire dampers are installed within the supply and return air ducts of ventilation and air conditioning systems. Under normal conditions, they remain in an open state; however, in the event of a fire—specifically when the air temperature within the duct reaches 70°C—a fusible link melts, causing the damper to automatically close under the force of a torsion spring. These dampers are designed to satisfy requirements for fire stability and fire integrity for a specified duration, thereby serving to isolate smoke and block the spread of fire. Upon closing, the damper transmits a "closed" signal.
Key Selection Criteria
1. The primary control parameters for selecting a fire damper include its specifications (dimensions), among other factors.
2. Fire dampers are suitable for use in ventilation and air conditioning systems. With the exception of fire dampers used in kitchen exhaust systems within public buildings—which feature an activation temperature of 150°C—fire dampers used in general ventilation and air conditioning systems typically have an activation temperature of 70°C.
3. Fire dampers are applicable for installation within the ductwork of ventilation, air conditioning, or smoke exhaust systems; selection should be guided by the specific basic functions and scope of application required for the system.
4. When selecting a damper, careful attention must be paid to its specific functional requirements—such as whether it is normally open or normally closed, capabilities for automatic or manual closing/opening, manual resetting, signal output, and remote control functionality.
5. It is necessary to determine whether the damper requires interlock functionality with the system's fan(s).
