The double-louvered air grille consists of two layers of blades: the front layer is adjustable, while the rear layer is fixed. As needed, a split-type multi-leaf volume control damper can be configured behind the grille to regulate the airflow volume. Units in which the front blades are arranged vertically and the rear blades horizontally are designated as the "VH" type. By altering the installation angle of the vertical blades, the airflow's diffusion angle can be adjusted. For instance, the air outlet for a horizontal concealed fan coil unit—typically situated within the small corridor of a hotel guest room—commonly utilizes a VH-type double-louvered grille.
Units in which the front blades are arranged horizontally and the rear blades vertically are designated as the "HV" type. Depending on the specific requirements for cooling or heating, the elevation or depression angle of the airflow can be adjusted by altering the installation angle of the horizontal blades. For example, during cooling operations, if the airflow velocity within the conditioned zone is excessive, the horizontal blades can be adjusted to an upward angle (elevation). Conversely, during heating operations—should the warm airflow stratify near the ceiling and fail to descend—the horizontal blades can be adjusted to a downward angle (depression) to "push" the warm air down into the room.
Double-louvered air grilles are employed as side-supply outlets in all-air air conditioning systems. They are suitable for use in comfort air conditioning systems within public buildings, as well as in process air conditioning systems requiring high-precision temperature control. Furthermore, they can serve as air outlets for fan coil units (including those incorporating fresh air) or as supply outlets for independent fresh air systems.
Widely utilized as supply outlets in air conditioning systems, double-louvered air grilles can be fitted with an aluminum airflow volume control damper (herringbone damper) behind the grille, depending on operational requirements. These grilles feature two layers of mutually perpendicular blades that allow for independent adjustment of both horizontal and vertical blade angles; this capability enables the modification of the airflow diffusion pattern and, consequently, the adjustment of the airflow throw distance. The outer frame of the grille is available in two widths—wide-frame and narrow-frame options—making it suitable for use in ventilation systems with specialized installation requirements.
