1. Pre-Weld Preparation
(1) Depending on the thickness and configuration of the stainless steel louver panels, methods such as mechanical machining, plasma arc cutting, or carbon arc gouging should be used to cut the material and prepare the weld grooves. To prevent damage from metal spatter, a coating of lime powder should be applied to both sides of the groove when utilizing carbon arc gouging for groove preparation or during manual arc welding.
(2) A V-shaped groove configuration is recommended. A relatively low welding current should be employed to prevent intergranular corrosion in the stainless steel (acid-resistant steel).
(3) To ensure that the welded joint possesses properties identical to the base material, the "equivalent composition" principle should be followed when selecting welding consumables. Additionally, care must be taken to ensure that the ferrite content within the joint does not become excessive; this helps enhance the joint's resistance to hot cracking and intergranular corrosion.
(4) Strict tack welding procedures must be applied to the stainless steel louvered vents, adhering to the principles of "short and robust" tacks, and ensuring that "tack welds do not fully penetrate" the material.
2. Technical Welding Requirements
(1) When performing manual arc welding, the welding machine should be configured for DC reverse polarity. When performing TIG (argon arc) welding, DC straight polarity should be used.
(2) Prior to welding the stainless steel louvered vents, the welding wire must be cleaned using a stainless steel wire brush to remove surface scale. It should then be degreased with acetone, thoroughly dried, and used immediately after preparation.
(3) During the root pass (bottom layer) welding, the weld bead should be kept as thin as possible to facilitate proper fusion with the groove root. When terminating the arc, the weld bead should taper off gradually; if a crater shrinkage cavity forms at the arc termination point, it must be ground away using an angle grinder. The arc must be struck and extinguished exclusively within the confines of the weld groove; furthermore, the weld crater must be completely filled upon extinguishing the arc to prevent crater cracking. (4) To prevent carbide precipitation sensitization and intergranular corrosion in stainless steel louvered air vents, the interpass temperature and post-weld cooling rate must be strictly controlled; therefore, during welding, the interpass temperature is required to be maintained below 60°C.
